2025-08-28 00:00:00 The Purullena, a troglodyte city app is a free tool part of the Unified Digital Street Map of Andalusia (CDAU) project and developed by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). This app offers detailed information about Purullena, a picturesque village located in the region of Guadix, in the province of Granada. Its features include: History and Heritage: Purullena boasts a heritage dating back thousands of years: settlements of the Argaric culture on the Cuesta del Negro with necropolises and fortified enclosures, Roman remains, and Nasrid defensive towers over the Fardes River reflect its border position until its incorporation into Castile in 1489. It is especially known as the "Troglodyte City": cave dwellings have been documented since 1554, particularly numerous during the Ensenada Cadastre, and more than 400 families still live there today. Activities: A visit to the Almagruz Troglodyte Habitat allows you to explore cliff-top caves, take guided troglodyte tours (day or night), and participate in educational workshops on troglodyte culture. You can also explore the characteristic badlands and gullies of the Fardes, visit viewpoints such as the "End of the World," or take circular routes through the area's unique geological environment.
