Would you like to take the very first steps with your own smartphone or tablet? The learning app “Startup assistance – digitally there” will help you with this! It is a safe place for older people to get to know the device and its functions, to try it out, learn and practice.

In the starter app, you can learn and practice how to use your smartphone or tablet right from the start - without risking anything wrong or broken.
In a protected learning environment, the most important information about operating a device is explained step by step, from the first “tap” and “swipe” to installing apps, communicating via messenger and email, and searching the Internet. Explanatory videos convey the knowledge in an understandable way - these can be watched again and again.
The many playful exercises allow you to practice using tablets and smartphones at your own learning pace.
Once installed, the app does not require an internet connection.


What content can you find in the app?
In the module “A short introduction” we will first explain to you how to find your way around the jump starter app.

• Module 1: Operate the device
Learn to type, swipe, drag, zoom and use the keyboard on the device. The many playful exercises such as “The Mosquito”, “The Map” or “The Labyrinth” make it easier to get started using the device.

• Module 2: Explore the device
In order to familiarize yourself with the device, not only the ports and buttons, but also many other terms and symbols, such as the toolbar, WLAN and SIM, are explained and practiced. The search within the device and the screen lock are also presented.

• Module 3: Apps
All important questions about the topic of “apps” from “What are apps good for and how do I use them?” to “How do I install and uninstall an app?” are explained and learned through the associated exercises.

• Module 4: Messenger
Here you can find help for getting started with messenger communication. Among other things, you can try out a messenger conversation in the secure learning environment.

• Module 5: Passwords and Identity Credentials
What makes a password secure and why is it even important? What's the deal with proof of identity via code in a text message or email? This is explained and can be tested in a playful way: in the password check and in the “Code Cracker” game.

• Module 6: Email
Do you already use email on a computer or is this a new topic? Depending on your previous knowledge, you will learn what an email is or how email addresses can be accessed on your own device. Another focus is on recognizing the intentions behind emails - try to distinguish “good” emails from unwanted advertising or attempted fraud.

• Module 7: Research
In this module you will learn and practice searching effectively and distinguishing false reports from true information. You will find help to keep track of searches on several sites and get to know different search engines.

To get started, we recommend exploring the modules one after the other. Depending on your own interests and needs, you can also access the topics and exercises individually via the menu and use the app flexibly.
All texts from the modules are read out in the starter app. You can turn this feature on and off in the settings.


Technical note:
The “Start Help – Digitally Included” app also works without an internet connection and was developed to save data.
The app is optimized and content-oriented for both smartphones (Android and iOS) and tablets (Android and iOS). It works on devices in portrait format.
