Mumbai is a megacity in India that is known for its rich history, culture, and attractions. It is the capital of Maharashtra state and the financial and commercial hub of the country. Mumbai is located on the west coast of India and has a natural harbour that connects it to the Arabian Sea. Mumbai was formed by the reclamation of seven islands that were originally inhabited by the Koli people, a fishing community. Mumbai was ruled by various dynasties and empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and then to the British. Mumbai became an important centre of trade, industry, and education under the British rule. Mumbai is also famous for its film industry, known as Bollywood, which produces the largest number of movies in the world.
