2022-10-17 00:00:00 Cooperative Market Development Programme (CMDP) has supported construction and operation of cooperative markets at different levels. As of now, CMDP has established 50 primary cooperative market collection centers at the local level, 2 district level markets (Kavre and Nuwakot), 2 municipal markets (Ratnanagar, Chitwan and Benighat Rorang, Dhading) and 2 central level satellite markets in Chabahil, Kathmandu and Lalitpur. However, with the growing incidents of COVID-19 in Nepal since March 2020, the country has been passing through series of nationwide lockdowns to curb the spread of coronavirus. Though the imposed lockdown may have helped contain the spread of the coronavirus in Nepal, it has also spelled trouble for both farmers and consumers across the country. Farmers are unable to sell their produce, and consumers are unable to access fresh fruits and vegetables. In order to safeguard livelihoods of the farmers, UNDP Accelerator Lab in Nepal has supported CMDP to explore digital marketing platform that links farmers’ cooperative markets directly with the consumers. After a series of consultation with the Ministry, CMDP and digital consulting firms, a concept of creating an agro-based digital cooperative platform was prepared and was termed as “Krishicoopbazaar.com”. The platform is available in both website and mobile application to interconnect cooperative markets with the consumers so as to supply fresh fruits, vegetables and other commodities.
